2016 - Man looking at the ocean

2016

2016 is the year when I finally (hope to) start writing again!

I’ve been wanting to write for quite some time, but I had tried blogging a while back and never really got into it. What’s really been holding me back is a supreme amount of inertia and just not knowing what on Earth to write about.

But lately I’ve been re-inspired by an article I read on Medium which offered some basic advice – “write what you know”. Turns out that’s pretty much the most common advice ever when it comes to aspiring writers (with over 718 million hits on Google), but I didn’t know that at the time and I liked it! So I decided to start my personal blog, none of this “niche” business, and just write about whatever I want for whoever wants to read. That being said, I won’t [just] be sharing stories about my three fat cats, there will be *some* focus to the whole thing.

First of all, I love the web. I just really enjoy cool sites or apps that look good and run fast, especially if they solve some user problem in an innovative or practical way. I’m a front-end developer by day, so you’ll be seeing articles about whatever code projects I’m working on and any discoveries I make, because sharing is caring (and it’ll look good on my CV)! Apart from development, I’m also really into UX and Product Management, because I think it’s pointless designing and building an app that you like, but nobody else does.

I also love everything to do with entrepreneurship. From content marketing and copywriting to personal finance and passive income, I enjoy pretty much every aspect of it. My goal in life is to pave my own way to financial freedom whilst I’m still young enough to reap the benefits. I’ve already started (and failed) my first business, and can’t wait to give it another shot! My successes and my failures are all learning experiences, and speaking of learning…

I like that too! I’m a very ambitious guy (and believe everyone else should be too) and am constantly trying to make myself better to help me achieve my goals. So I’ll be sharing any resources that have helped me along the way – be it podcasts, blogs, books or just someone I followed on Twitter – if I learn something new, I’ll gladly share it in the hopes that it teaches you something too.

What else? Well, there are some other topics that I care about but don’t really fit into the main topics above. I love food, couldn’t live without it! Travelling is also pretty great, and keeping fit is important too (so I can eat more food). I’m a gamer and think Lord of the Rings is the best fantasy world ever. I guess I’ll just create a category for all the random things that matter to me – it is a personal blog after all!

Now that you know what I like, here are some of my plans for 2016:

– Improve my development, writing and product skills
– Create and sell a course on Udemy
– Read and travel more
– Eat more (so that I don’t die)

That’s pretty much all there is to know for now. So here’s to 2016 and blog post #1, hope that you enjoy them both!
